Double finalist at the Indian Wells Masters 1000, Daniil Medvedev had to battle hard against Arthur Fils (6-4, 2-6, 7-6) to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Confident in the first set, Medvedev needed just one early break to take the lead, also benefiting from Fils’ 19 unforced errors.

Strong at the net (winning 23 of 38 volleys), the Frenchman adjusted his strategy, incorporating more backhand slices to disrupt the world No. 5. Becoming more aggressive in rallies, he dominated the second set with a commanding double break.

Riding the momentum, Fils led 4-2 with a service game in hand in the deciding set, but the match was ultimately decided in a tense tie-break.

The decisive game was nerve-wracking, with Medvedev earning two match points, both brilliantly saved by the world No. 21. However, the Russian capitalized on his third opportunity, ending Fils’ impressive run in California after 2 hours and 24 minutes of play.

For the third consecutive year, Medvedev will compete in the Indian Wells semifinals, where he will face Holger Rune.
