After securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 with a dominant performance against Tommy Paul (6-4, 6-0), Daniil Medvedev may have finally kickstarted his season in a tournament where he has consistently performed well. He is a two-time finalist in a row.

Asked about Jannik Sinner’s absence, following his three-month suspension, during an interview with Arab News, the Russian, as always, spoke with honesty.

“It depends. Overall, Sinner’s absence, who has been winning almost every other tournament lately, maybe even more, is certainly an advantage in terms of results for everyone on the circuit. Not just for me. Literally for everyone. At the same time, given my recent results, I’m not really concerned about Sinner because, in the last few tournaments, I didn’t even get far enough to face him. So, it depends. But I like what Carlos (Alcaraz) said. The most important thing is to focus on yourself, try to do what you do best, and win matches. If you play against Sinner, you try to win. If you play against someone else, you try to win. And that’s what matters most.”
